 My thoughts:
My daughter is home from college so we sat together to listen to the CD and critique the tracks.   We both agreed that our favorites were the Alicia Keyes song "Empire State of Mind", and the Jennifer Hudson and Leona Lewis song "Love Is Your Color".   We are both also big musical fans, so we both loved all three of the songs by the Sex and the City Men's Choir.

Win it!

Do you know about Walmart freebies?

I hope so!

I get quite a few freebies from different places all over the internet.   But I have to say that the Walmart ones are my favorites.    They're easy to order, come quickly (unlike so many other freebies) and ALWAYS come (again....unlike many other freebies).

If you're not aware of them, or you've gotten them in the past, but haven't lately, then go check them out.   The one thing to know is that they only have a certain amount, so the freebies change frequently, and they run out of any particular one fairly quickly sometimes.

As of this posting there are currently five available.

Happy 1 Month Blogiversary To Me!

Last week was my 27th wedding anniversary.   And just as important, today is my one month blogiversary!   Okay, maybe not as important, but pretty exciting to me.  I'd been wanting to start a blog and talking about it for over a year.   People kept saying, "Just start".  But I was scared I wouldn't be able to do it, or afraid no one would come.   You know, the old "What if you had a party and no one came?" scenario.   So I started off by BRIBING people.   Yes, I stooped to bribing and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

And here I sit one month later with over 150 175 followers!    My first giveaway that ended I considered a success with 176 entries, and I currently have three others still going on even after my BRIBE giveaway ends today.

My college daughter that's home for a month is writing a fun piece for me about summer reading for teens, and I'm working on other giveaways, posts about some of the fun things I did with my kids in past summers, and posts to help shoppers.  So I feel I'm off to a decent start.   Every time I see a new smiling face in the follower boxes I'm excited.

So one month down, and hopefully many more to come!   Cheers!

Happy Anniversary to Me!!

Today is my 27th wedding anniversary.   That's a long time.  I remember such funny details about my wedding day.   Like my older brother who was a groomsman arrived with a cast on his arm and couldn't fit his tux jacket over it.  They managed to figure it out without letting me know so I wouldn't freak out.  Or my nephew who was the ring bearer and didn't want to walk down the aisle.   But he did when bribed by grandma with some money.  I remember my sister-in-law who isn't always the fuzzy sort pampering me and doing my nails and fussing over me.  I think my family could tell I was a nervous wreck with the thought of hundreds of people staring at me.  I remember how much I loved my wedding gown and veil and my flowers.

My father who is now deceased walked me down the aisle crying so hard.   I remember it calmed my nerves because I had to concentrate so hard on calming him down that I couldn't be nervous for myself.   My adult niece was just commenting this past Christmas how the thing she remembers the most about our wedding was my dad crying.   She said it made her and her best friend with her cry too.  My husband said he saw my dad crying so hard and felt bad like my dad must be upset he was marrying me.   Of course now that he has a young adult daughter he can understand it better.   We're already anticipating him blubbering as he walks our daughter down the aisle.

The minister who married us had been my minister growing up and had married both of my brothers too.   I was so happy he agreed to come from hours away to marry me also.  He had been such a part of our family for years, and he cried too during the ceremony which really touched me.

The only thing I've always regretted is that I didn't enjoy it more at the time.   I was so intent on making sure my "guests" were properly attended to, that I still couldn't relax.   The cutting of the cake, eating a bite, throwing the garter, first dance, etc.,  all took quite a bit of time.   Then I thought to be a good hostess we should go from table to table chatting with our guests and thanking them for coming.   So while everyone else was having a good time dancing to the band, I was being Ms. Manners.   If I had it to do over again, I would just have a good time and not worry so much about doing everything "just right".

Overall the day was quite perfect and magical to me though.  I was surrounded by our friends and family and vowing to love for better or worse.  Happy Anniversary Sweetie!!

Peeled Snacks Review and Giveaway

I recently won some Peeled Snacks in a giveaway. I'd been dying to try them since they had such fun names and sounded much more interesting than the usual dried snack you see in the store. Plus they're made with organic and all natural fruits.  I received the Organic Fruit Picks Variety Pack

When they arrived there were two bags of each of five flavors. I told you they were fun names!
pine-4-Pineapple
much-ado-about-Mango
Banan-a-peel
Apricot-a-lot
Apple-2-the-core

I decided to do a "hidden" taste test with my two teens and my husband. So I handed them each a sample of each of the fruits and then asked them to first see if they could identify them and then also to tell me if they liked them, and what qualities they did like and didn't like. A true honest taste test!

The first one we sampled was the Apple-2-the-core. This was the overall favorite! All four of us loved this one. I was used to dried apple snacks that were VERY dried and even crunchy. These were so moist and chewy. They were by far my son's favorite of the five. After we finished our taste test, he asked for the rest of the bag to eat and said he'd love to have these to take in his lunch every day to school.

The second bag we sampled was the Apricot-a-lot. I was excited to get to try these because my daughter and I love dried apricots. Well they didn't disappoint! Again, all four of us liked these. I was surprised that even my husband and son who are not big dried apricot fans liked them. They did seem similar to the dried apricots we're used to purchasing, but we liked knowing they were free of preservatives. I finished this bag off myself.

The third item in my taste test were the pine-4-Pineapple. Once again all four of us loved these and my husband said these were his favorite. My daughter liked them but said she preferred fresh pineapple. But they are a great snack to take in lunches or for her to keep in her dorm room for those times she has a late night fruit craving. These were different from the other fruits as it contained several large fruit rings and not many small pieces. But I did cut one of the rings in half so you could make more servings if you needed to.

The fourth bag was the much-ado-about-Mango. This was the dried fruit I was the most excited to taste. I love mango but don't get it that frequently and had never had it dried before. This too was a big hit with my family. It was my daughter's favorite of the five and both my son and husband said it was their second favorite. I was stunned by that because neither of the two guys in my house ever eat mango. My son liked it so much he asked me to buy fresh mango for him to try because he thought he might like it now. That truly shocked me! Later that evening my son even asked if there was "any of that mango left" and finished off the bag.

At lastly we tried the dried bananas. I have to admit that of the five these were probably the least favorite of everyone. It wasn't that they totally disliked them--after all, the bag was gone by bedtime--they just didn't like them as well. One issue was that when I first opened the bag, the smell was of very ripe, almost overripe, bananas. After the bag was open a bit the smell wasn't so strong, but when I first gave them to my family they all said they were a bit "stinky". It didn't keep them from eating them, but they did comment on it. If you like very ripe bananas or have small children, then you'll probably love these.

They have several other varieties available too.   I'm dying to try Cherry-go-round (Natural Bing cherries), Bing Bing Cherry (Bing cherries, apples, peaches, walnuts and cashews) and FigSated (Figs, apricots, dates, almonds and pistachios).  Don't those sound yummy too?!?

If you like healthy snacks for yourself and your family, then I'd suggest trying Peeled Snacks.   I was in Starbucks on Saturday and even saw them there by the register.  They're now available at Starbucks throught the US and Canada.   Whole Foods carries the products also or you can get them online.

ABC Neckties Review and Giveaway

I recently won a contest to receive a necktie from ABC Neckties. I had previously shown my husband the site and he had found many ties he loved. He has to wear a dress shirt and tie every day, and gets tired of the same ones all the time. He says ties are the accessory for a man, much like jewelry or purses for a woman. It's the only real article of clothing that shows his personality or taste. An outfit of navy slacks and a white dress shirt can look the same every day if it doesn't have a tie to change it up.

One he particularly liked was listed in the "brown" ties. He said he currently didn't have a good brown tie he could wear with his brown dress pants and wanted a new one. So I ordered it wondering how the quality would be since the price seemed so reasonable. The tie just arrived and WOW! I'm very pleased. This tie is beautiful and of a quality I can certainly appreciate. I've bought ties for him that cost much more that were not as nice as this tie.

They conveniently have their ties divided into categories that make it simple to find what you're looking for. Want a silk tie? Then search under the STYLE categories for silk ties. Need a certain color tie to match an outfit or suit? They also have them divided by color. I wanted a brown tie so clicked on the category brown.

And of course everyone needs a cartoon tie! Or a tabasco tie! They even categories for those too!

Or how about a tie to support your favorite sports team. I see lots of Colts ties--Go Colts!

Whatever color or style, from dressy to whimsical, you'll find a tie here to meet those needs. They even have bow ties and big and tall ties.

Well the lovely Haley from ABC Neckties has offered to give one of my readers a tie of their choice. What a great deal. So go over and check out all the great choices they have and enter to win one of your own.

Winner can select any necktie on the site.

Mandatory Entry:
Go to ABC Neckties and pick out the tie you'd like to win. Come back and tell me the name of the tie. It cannot be one of the ties I show above.

Extra Entries:
1) Follow ABC Neckties on Twitter.
2) Fan ABC Neckties on Facebook.
3) Become a public follower on GFC. Let me know what name you're signed up under. Current followers count too. If you sign up to follow before May 18th, you can also go and enter the $10 Target gift card giveaway I'm having for people who follow.  Commenting on this post will NOT enter you into the $10 gift card giveaway. You must enter via the link above.
4) Enter my Vera Bradley giveaway and let me know you did.
5) Go to ABC Neckties and tell me which category is your favorite and which tie in that category you like. It can't be the one you'd pick if you won. It has to be a second tie. This is where you can show me your personality or interests.

RULES:
1) Giveaway starts now and ends Friday May 21st at 10PM EST. Winner will be selected with random.org and notified via email.
2) Limited to US or Canada only.

(Disclosure: I did not receive a review item for this giveaway. I reviewed the tie I'd won in a previous contest. ABC Neckties will be providing the prize directly to the winning entrant. My review is in no way influenced by them allowing me to giveaway an item and I received no compensation other than the tie being given to the winner.)

Vera Bradley Purse Giveaway!

I found a great deal recently on some Vera Bradley purses, so bought a few for my daughter and some to give away! If you're not familiar with Vera Bradley they carry a collection of colorful print purses that can pop up an otherwise boring outfit.

The one I'm giving away is the Hannah purse in Mediterranean Blue. This bag is brand new with the tags still attached. This purse is small and would be great for a teen or tween, or for those times you don't need a larger bag. It would be cute with everything from jeans to dress clothes. Suggested retail value of the purse is $45.

Inside of purse:

Size: 6 ½" x 7 ½" x 2 ½" - 6 ½" strap drop

Don't let this pretty little bag's size fool you, there's plenty of room inside. Gentle exterior pleating, a v-yoke and rounded shape create a surprisingly roomy interior where two slip pockets keep vital items close at hand. A zippered closure and snappy shoulder strap add the finishing touches.

ENTRY:

Gain one entry by doing any of the following:

1) Enter my ABC Necktie giveaway.
2) Become a public follower of my blog. If you become a follower before May 18, you can also enter to win a $10 gift card from Target. Leave a comment with your follower name. You can enter that giveaway by clicking here. Commenting on this post will NOT enter you into the $10 gift card giveaway. You must enter via the link above.

3) Tell me what outfit you'd wear when carrying this or who you would give this to.

Make sure your email address is visible in your comment or on public view on your blogger account. I need a way to contact you if you're selected as the winner. Giveaway begins now and will end on Friday, May 21st at 10PM EST. Winner will be selected by random.org and will be notified by email.

I did not receive any promotional items from Vera Bradley. I purchased the giveaway item myself.
