Peeled Snacks Review and Giveaway

I recently won some Peeled Snacks in a giveaway. I'd been dying to try them since they had such fun names and sounded much more interesting than the usual dried snack you see in the store. Plus they're made with organic and all natural fruits.  I received the Organic Fruit Picks Variety Pack

When they arrived there were two bags of each of five flavors. I told you they were fun names!
pine-4-Pineapple
much-ado-about-Mango
Banan-a-peel
Apricot-a-lot
Apple-2-the-core

I decided to do a "hidden" taste test with my two teens and my husband. So I handed them each a sample of each of the fruits and then asked them to first see if they could identify them and then also to tell me if they liked them, and what qualities they did like and didn't like. A true honest taste test!

The first one we sampled was the Apple-2-the-core. This was the overall favorite! All four of us loved this one. I was used to dried apple snacks that were VERY dried and even crunchy. These were so moist and chewy. They were by far my son's favorite of the five. After we finished our taste test, he asked for the rest of the bag to eat and said he'd love to have these to take in his lunch every day to school.

The second bag we sampled was the Apricot-a-lot. I was excited to get to try these because my daughter and I love dried apricots. Well they didn't disappoint! Again, all four of us liked these. I was surprised that even my husband and son who are not big dried apricot fans liked them. They did seem similar to the dried apricots we're used to purchasing, but we liked knowing they were free of preservatives. I finished this bag off myself.

The third item in my taste test were the pine-4-Pineapple. Once again all four of us loved these and my husband said these were his favorite. My daughter liked them but said she preferred fresh pineapple. But they are a great snack to take in lunches or for her to keep in her dorm room for those times she has a late night fruit craving. These were different from the other fruits as it contained several large fruit rings and not many small pieces. But I did cut one of the rings in half so you could make more servings if you needed to.

The fourth bag was the much-ado-about-Mango. This was the dried fruit I was the most excited to taste. I love mango but don't get it that frequently and had never had it dried before. This too was a big hit with my family. It was my daughter's favorite of the five and both my son and husband said it was their second favorite. I was stunned by that because neither of the two guys in my house ever eat mango. My son liked it so much he asked me to buy fresh mango for him to try because he thought he might like it now. That truly shocked me! Later that evening my son even asked if there was "any of that mango left" and finished off the bag.

At lastly we tried the dried bananas. I have to admit that of the five these were probably the least favorite of everyone. It wasn't that they totally disliked them--after all, the bag was gone by bedtime--they just didn't like them as well. One issue was that when I first opened the bag, the smell was of very ripe, almost overripe, bananas. After the bag was open a bit the smell wasn't so strong, but when I first gave them to my family they all said they were a bit "stinky". It didn't keep them from eating them, but they did comment on it. If you like very ripe bananas or have small children, then you'll probably love these.

They have several other varieties available too.   I'm dying to try Cherry-go-round (Natural Bing cherries), Bing Bing Cherry (Bing cherries, apples, peaches, walnuts and cashews) and FigSated (Figs, apricots, dates, almonds and pistachios).  Don't those sound yummy too?!?

If you like healthy snacks for yourself and your family, then I'd suggest trying Peeled Snacks.   I was in Starbucks on Saturday and even saw them there by the register.  They're now available at Starbucks throught the US and Canada.   Whole Foods carries the products also or you can get them online.
